THE SERVICE OF ONGOING TRAINING
for priests, deacons, lay pastoral animators

MANDATE OF THE ARCHBISHOP

In 1994, following a request by Bishop Couture, Archbishop of Québec at the time, the Society of Priests of the Séminaire de Québec accepted the mandate to take care of the ongoing training of priests, permanent deacons, lay pastoral animators in the diocese in co-operation with the Service of human ressources in pastoral work of the Québec Diocese. This mandate is in direct line with the foundation charisma of the Society of Priests of the Seminary.

Indeed, the Blessed François de Laval wanted the Seminary to take care of the training of future priests and to exercise a supporting role for the members of the presbyterate in the very diversified pastoral work of that time. In broadening this mission to include deacons and lay pastoral animators, the Seminary brings into being for today this mission which is forever essential to the vitality of the diocesan Church.

In June 2006, Father Alain Pouliot, a priest of the Séminaire de Québec, received from the board of directors of the Seminary a new 3-year appointment as the one in charge of this field of ongoing training. He fulfills his responsibility as a member of the Service of Human Ressources of the Québec Diocese of which he his the director. It is with pleasure that the Seminary is the financial provider for this Service of Ongoing Training for the benefit of people engaged in ordained ministries and in lay ministries. Can there be a task more in agreement with the spirit of its origins? Truly, Bishop de Laval saw "his Seminary" as a seed-bed for subjects capable of going "to all encounters". It is in the co-operation of all the persons engaged in pastoral work that the challenges of "encounters" are dealt with. That is how is told, day by day, the tale of evengelizing gestures carrying the Word that frees and unites.

THE SERVICE OF ONGOING TRAINING IS FINANCED BY THE SÉMINAIRE DE QUÉBEC AND IS UNDER THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SERVICE OF HUMAN RESSOURCES IN PASTORAL WORK OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF QUÉBEC
