Since 1977, a new institution has been added to the contribution of the Seminary in the life of our diocesan Church. It is the "Maison François-de-Laval, vocation center". This is a service which began in 1966 by the nomination of Father Marc Bouchard as Director. He was appointed to create a house for young people with a vocation project oriented toward the diocesan clergy. Thus, this residence soon took the name of "Diocesan Center for Vocations". In 1968, since the "Séminaire St-Victor" could no longer give the junior college level classes, he sent his students to the "Diocesan Center for Vocations". Father Réal Nadeau, coming from "Séminaire de St-Victor", joined the team already in place under the direction of Father Bouchard.



At the request of the Archbishop, the Seminary, in 1977, willingly accepted to take the responsibility of an institution whose spirit is perfectly in line with the preoccupations that Bishop de Laval had when he founded his Minor Seminary, hence the name given to it: Maison François-de-Laval, vocation center.

According to its statutes, the Maison François-de-Laval, vocation center, is destined to actively contribute to the preparation of a priestly relief, in the very spirit of the institution founded by the Blessed François de Laval. It is therefore not a school, but a place of animation, questioning and training where a youngster can find the ressources allowing him to better discern what the Lord expects from him and to acquire certain prerequisites judged necessary to the preparation of future priests.

And to assure a greater concern for the life of our diocesan Church, we wanted to associate in the direction and animation of this institution persons who are not members of the community of priests of the Seminary and who have generously accepted to devote part of their time to that work. The Seminary is very grateful to them for that. We count a great deal on this institution to help those who feel called to work in the Lord's vineyard to overcome the obstacles they may face, thanks to the work of discernment and animation of the Maison François-de-Laval, vocation center, and thanks to the personalized counseling offered by its animators.

For the one who is open to the possibility of becoming a priest and who wishes to learn more about this.

You are a student or a worker, and you wish to find out if the priesthood corresponds to the call you feel inside?

The Maison François-de-Laval can help you by proposing concrete steps to verify or confirm a possible call to the prieshood.

This vocation center wishes to answer the needs of our Church, in co-operation with the Grand Séminaire de Québec, by its active contribution to prepare the replacement of priests, in the spirit of the institution founded by the Blessed François de Laval.

Its objectives are:

Give information on the steps to be taken to realize this life project.

Give individual counseling to each person coming to clarify with a priest his vocation project.

Through a service of useful encounters that favor, if needed and for those who so desire, human growth, the deepening of Christian and spiritual life.

Occasionally assemble the persons involved in the same pursuit and who wish to discover God's will for them.


Today the priest, following Christ's mission…
  • Greets people in need
  • Gives the forgiveness that makes people free
  • Assembles the community for prayer and for the celebration of the Eucharist
  • Proclaims and teaches God's word
  • Celebrates the sacraments and helps the faithful to live their faith like dedicated witnesses
  • Supports and allows the engagement of couples toward the sacrament of marriage
  • Visits people who are ill and brings them comfort in the celebration of the anointing of the sick
  • Baptizes and works with others to build living Christian communities
  • Brings an answer to the quest for meaning
  • Sows the seeds of hope and light in those whose hearts are grieving because of death or trial
  • Works toward the advent of God's kingdom and contributes in building a better world where justice, sharing, love and peace abound.
  • Prays for the men and women he meets, for those who are entrusted to him, for the Church and for the world.
